Privacy Policy

My University View ("the App," "we," "us") helps students and families explore colleges, compare schools, and plan campus visits. This policy explains what information the App handles, where it goes, and the choices you have. The short version: we collect only what the App needs to work, we don't run ads or trackers, and we never sell your information.

Information you provide

• Profile: name, home address (and its map coordinates), GPA, intended major, preferred maps app. All fields are optional.
• College activity: favorite schools, your 0–5 ratings and notes, your Top 5 list, coach and admissions email addresses you choose to save, and road-trip stops.
• Uploads: photos and documents you attach to schools (for example, campus-visit photos or brochures).
• Account credentials: if you create a device-only username account, your password is stored on your device in hashed form. If you sign in with Google (or other providers we may add, such as Microsoft or Apple), we receive your email address and name from that provider — never your password.

Where your information is stored

• Guest use and device-only accounts: everything stays in your browser on your device. It is never transmitted to us, and we cannot see or recover it. Clearing your browser data deletes it.
• Signed-in accounts: your account data is stored with our hosting provider, Supabase, in a database where technical rules (row-level security) ensure each user can only access their own data. This is what enables your data to sync across your devices.

How we use information

Solely to provide the App's features: saving and syncing your college research, pre-filling the email drafts you send to coaches and admissions, geocoding addresses you type so road trips can be routed, and (if enabled) managing your subscription. We do not use your information for advertising, profiling, or any purpose unrelated to the App. We never sell or rent personal information.

Services the App relies on

Like most modern apps, certain features are powered by third-party services that necessarily receive limited technical information:

• Supabase — hosts sign-in and account data (our data processor).
• Google Sign-In (and other sign-in providers we may add) — authenticates you; the provider knows you signed in to the App.
• OpenStreetMap/Nominatim — receives address text you type, to convert it to map coordinates.
• OSRM — receives trip coordinates to calculate driving routes.
• Map tiles (CARTO/OpenStreetMap) and content delivery networks — receive your IP address when the map and app load, as with any website.
• Stripe — if a paid subscription is offered, Stripe processes payment; we receive only subscription status, never card numbers.

Links that leave the App (school websites, NCSA, review sites, maps apps, search engines) are governed by those sites' own privacy policies.

Children's privacy

The App is designed for high-school students exploring college, used with their parents. It is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has created an account, contact us and we will delete it. We encourage parents to use the App together with their students — that's what it's built for.

Data retention and deletion

• Device-only data: delete it anytime by clearing your browser data or using your account's log-out/removal controls.
• Signed-in accounts: your data is retained while your account is active. To delete your account and all associated data, contact us at the address below and we will complete the deletion within 30 days. (In-app account deletion is coming with our native app release.)
• You can export your Scorecard data at any time using the App's Excel and PDF export buttons.

Security

The App is served over HTTPS; cloud data is protected by row-level security so accounts are isolated from each other; device-only passwords are stored as cryptographic hashes; and sign-in through Google/Apple/Microsoft means we never handle those passwords at all. No system is perfectly secure, but our design principle is to hold as little of your information as possible.

Your rights

Wherever you live — including California (CCPA/CPRA) and the EU/UK (GDPR) — you may request access to, correction of, or deletion of your personal information, and you may ask what information we hold about you. Because we don't sell personal information or share it for cross-context advertising, there is nothing to opt out of on that front. Contact us using the address below and we'll respond within 30 days.

Changes to this policy

If we make material changes, we'll update the effective date above and note the change in the App. Continued use after a change means you accept the updated policy.
